Since the first “water filling station”, an automated and publicly available filling station for drinking water, was succesfully inaugurated in July 2012, those “water filling stations” widely disseminated. With more than 50.000 bottled litres already during the second summer and only in the months of June and July the expectations of AGS (Azienda Gardesana Servizi – local waterworks) were more than surpassed. The particularly welcoming development is that with this project the end consumer does not only have to pay very little, but a big step is being taken towards improving environmental protection: taking the figures for the first two months in 2012, a total of 340.000 plastic bottles of 1,5 litres have been saved! Withal the AGS garantuees a product of high standard, appreciated by inhabitants and vacationists. Due to this great success, further “water filling stations” have been put up in the Lake Garda area.
“Water filling stations” by AGS have been put up along the East bank of Lake Garda in the following places:
Likewise in the Valpolicella region “water filling stations” have been put up in:
1 litre of sparkling water costs 5 cents, still water costs 3 cents.
In the city hall or the branch office of the AGS in Via 11 Settembre 24 in Peschiera del Garda, inhabitants recieve a microchip card. (Please look for the current opening hours of the counters at the respective webpage.) To obtain that card, it is neccessary to bring an identification card and the data of the personal water supply line. When dealing with a multi-familiy appartment building, the caretaker in charge has to worry about getting the cards for all residents.
Each and every card has a previously installed credit of 50 cents, which corresponds to 10 litres of sparkling water. The cost for the card is 2 euros for all permanent residents of the municipality, 5 euros for inhabitants having a secondary residence in the municipality. The costs are accounted in the water bill. Similiar to a cash machine one must insert the card into the “water filling station”, afterwards choose between still or sparkling water. The minumum quantity amounts to 1 litre. Cards can be recharged in the town halls.
The water comes from the groundwater conduit in a depth of 100 metres, to exclude soilings. Additionally samples routinely are extracted and controlled in the laboratory to guarantee pure water quality.
