Newsflash: Lake Garda in April 2018

30 April 2018

An Italian proverb says “Aprile – dolce dormire” – and means that spring fatigue tends to make us sleepy during the month of April. But Lake Garda is not tired at all. Inaugurations, invitations, plans and constructions are part of the day-to-day-business. This is why we dedicate our April 2018 newsflash in part to some inaugurations, like the new dog bar in Sirmione or the reopening of the dock of Sirmione’s castle as well as the invite to this year’s Lakiva Trail Bike Event.

And there are also good news for everybody renting out their Lake Garda holiday home! Sirmione sets new standars by forming the “B&B Sirmione e case vacanze” association, which promotes small local family businesses and b&b’s. The association wants to grow together, by teamworking and exchanging experiences. Up to this moment, the network counts more than 60 local structures.

Arco-Riva: New cycleway between Arco and Riva

The long awaited cycleway between Arco and Riva (alongside Via Santa Caterina) will be finally built and accessable within 150 days. The construction of the 400 metre long cycleway, which is located close to the Arco Center complex, is not supposed to bring any major traffic obstructions.

Nago-Torbole: The first sustainable municipal building at Lake Garda

Sustainable building is becoming more and more routine, also at Lake Garda. Now the first sustainable municipal building in the Lake Garda area emerges in Nago-Torbole. Construction works have started in December. The solid timber- and x-lam house is still in the developement phase but alraedy has received the “Casa Clima Gold Nature”-certificate, which labels buildings, that are almost zero-energy- houses and sustainable on more levels.

The new townhall is not only ecofriendly because of its energy class, great importance was also placed on other topics: the origin of all used materials, their processing and the impact on the water supplies in general. A big emphasis was also put on the well-being of all people, who will work and spend time in it. The perfect execution of natural light sources on the inside of the municipal building, a healthy room climate and accustic well-being are also part of the project.

Salò: Telepass users have access to the parking lot “Civico al centro”

More and more parking lots work with a telepass-system. With immediate effect, it is now also possible to park at the multilevel parking lot “Civico al centro” located in the city centre of Salò using a telepass and therefore not having to by a ticket at the counter. The same principle as on Italian’s highways applies. The barriers open once a telepass client enters or leaves the parking lot; parking costs are directly charged off the banking account to ensure a hassle-free parking procedure. The well-known parcheggio Citadella nearby the Arena in the city centre of Verona also provides the timesaving telepass-system.

Sirmione: A new association formed to promote holiday home rentals

Interesting for holiday home lettings: The newly founded union of “B&B Sirmione e case vacanze” wants to help small b&b family-run businesses, and everybody letting out their holiday home by collaborations and by setting up an efficient network. All people involved are sharing experiences and grow together. They see each other as small ambassadors of and for Sirmione, who want to promote themselves as a team. Some wine cellars and restaurants are also becoming partners to be able to offer tourists renting out a room in one of their businesses a high-quality service. More information for everybody wanting to join the association under the phone number 0039 347 246 9542 or by email associazionebbcav.sirmione@gmail.com.

Sirmione: Cycling in the town centre (for residents only)

There are going to be exceptions to the rule, but banning bicycles for people who are not residents, hotel guests or working in a culinary establishment, a hotel or a shop closeby the castle, has provoked agitation. The reason for the tension: Everybody should be able to chose their means of transportation. The reason for the ban: Parked and in-use-bicycles were obstructing pedestrians and traffic. But the mayor explains: Everybody wanting to ask for an exemption permit, can show up at the local police department at any given time.

Sirmione: A dog bar inaugurated

It might sound strange to some of us, but it is definitely appreciated by dogs! The newly opend up dog bar in Sirmione offers our four-legged friends a variety of different icecream flavours, colourful dog cookies, cupcakes, tortellini and fruit juices, that look so delicious that one wants to try them… “My Dog” is the name of this “dog paradise”, which is located in Via Dante 4 in front of the castle. But the innovative dog bar not only offers healthy delicacies, it also offers numerous services for dogs and their owners like for example dogsitters. Also souvenirs such as a photograph of your dog in front of the old castle printed on a magnet can be purchased.

Sirmione: Reoping of the Darsena Scaligera (dock by the castle)

The first visitors were already able to admire the northern part of the dock of Sirmione’s castle (Castello Scaligera) which has finally been reopened to the public after a long restoration phase. The impressive walls of the lakefront castle built into the water and now accessable on foot, have been constructed between 1351 and 1375. The castle dock is therefore an important contemporary witness as it is the only walkable historical castle dock in Italy.

Toscolano Maderno: Renovation works of lakeroad Zanardelli postponed to autumn

Big parts of lakeroad Zanardelli need renovation works, not only because of the cracks of the road surface caused by roots of pine trees but also for other reasons. Those renovation works were supposed to be already happening, but with the beginning of the tourist season they now have been postponed to avoid possible traffic obstructions – an agreement taken with the tourist association.

The annual Lakiva Trail Bike Event takes place in the middle of June

The Lakiva Trail Bike Event already takes place for the second year in a row. Bikers have the possibility of joining a group of bike lovers and explore the lake and its surrounding valleys together on a bicyle. Participants can choose between two routes: A shorter one of about 200 kilometres, which fundamentally offers a gorgeous lakeview (departure: June 15, 8.30 am) or a longer route of about 300 kilometres and 700 altitude difference, which also includes a trip to the valleys in Brescia (depature: 15. June, 4pm). To fully enjoy the territory with all five senses, the cicylists will also experience little stopovers in different local restaurants, where they get to taste typical dishes and delicacies.
