August is Italys most important holiday month, also at Lake Garda. Ferragosto, hot temperatures and lots of bathing fun. To ensure holiday makers a bathing experience as secure as possible, Lake Garda’s coast guards can now be reached by two telephonenumbers: the usual guardia Costiera, coastguard service number 1530 and also the Europe-wide emergency number 112. Dialing 112 gives people in need the advantage to be immediately located.
Furthermore interesting for watersport lovers: Lake Garda is testing modern buoys. And attention: Everybody who lately noticed a film of white foam on Lake Garda’s surface may rest assured that it is a harmless algal formation. The reason for this were the hot temperatures and the organic substances like leaves which were deposited in the lake during the often occuring thunderstorms.
Limone has aldready built its stunning cycle trail. Now ist Brenzone’s turn. Another five kilomtres of the cycle trail around Lake Garda are authorized. Construction works already start October first.
Up until now the emergency telephone number 1530 was the only one to reach the Coast Guards. Now help can also be called at the Europe-wide emergency number 112. The advantage: Calling 112 gives people in need the possibilty to be immediately located, no matter if calling from a landline or a cell phone. The former emergency number 1530 still remains unchanged.
The official bathing season at Lake Garda starts May, 15 and ends September, 15. Due to this year’s extreme heat, and often occuring thunderstorms, organic material like small branches or leaves ended up in the lake, they deposited and formed a white foam in some parts of the lake. This can disturb divers in particular. But immediately carried out water samples showed that the foam is a completely harmless algal formation.
To guarantee holiday makers maximum security, the police is controlling Bed & Breakfast establishments, which haven’t registered the stay of their guests at the responsible offices on time.
The primary school, Olivelli di Salò, has been built in the seventies and is nowadays attended by more than 400 pupils. Also part of the building is the local kindergarden. Although there haven’t been any damages arising from the last big earthquake in 2004, a complete renovation of the school is now taking place to adapt the building to the latest directives and standards and to also ensure seismic safety.
To emphasize the importance of sustainable means of transportations, Sirmione sends out a clear sign to promote environmental protection: Everybody living on the peninsula for more than two years, can ask for a cost contribution of 400 euros, when purchasing an electric bicyle. Requests are taken into consideration until September, 21st.
The modern buoys come from the United States of America, are eco-friendly and intelligent and have now been tested for the first time on Lake Garda during an event of the surfclub Torbole. The innovative buoys can be operated by the remote control of a smart phone and can therefore be easily used to mark the area of a regatta or something similar, even last minute. In a first testing procedure three prototypes have been tested. Each of them has a cost of 7000 euros and showed such good results that they will now be tested also during a sailing-event. A major plus-point of the modern buoys is that they do not need any anchoring at the lake bottom.
