Italy is rich in tradition, in all respects. Culinary traditions are celebrated as well as all arising festivities because Italians love to party. This February the carneval period led to lively celebrations for young and old, almost everywhere at Lake Garda. But also other local customs have been celebrated like e.g. the day honouring San Biagio, who was known for his hospitality. On the third of February, the inhabitants closeby the medieval castle of the little village Monzambano, situated only ten kilometres south of Peschiera del Garda, left their doors open for everyone wanting to enjoy a warm local dish in good company praising the importance of hospitality.
Another more popular “tradition” engaged all residents of the Lake Garda area, who love snow. The rather cold temperatures this month invited a lot of people to make trips to the near mountains enjoying all sorts of winter sports like skiing, bobsledding, snowboarding and snowshoe hiking – whereas a lot of localities down by the lake seemed to hibernate. BUT the real estate market was and is as lively as always. With almost no tourists around, this period even is a very good time to go visit properties of interest. It is true that a lot of shops, which line the lake, are closed for their winter break but the real estate agents keep their studios open. And also elsewhere a lot of people are renovating, restoring and preparing.
Brenzone: An extended water pipeline and construction works for the new cycling trail
Lazise: A record year in terms of tourism for one of the most expensive places on Lake Garda
Brenzone extends its water pipeline. Construction works take place between the two localities Castelletto and Marniga in order to also connect the locality Vaso with the pipeline. This guarantees an optimal daily drinking water supply for both places at any time. Building works will already be completed by the end of March when the constrcution works for the new cycling trail along the lakeside will commence. Traffic obstructions of any kind for pedestrians, bikers and drivers should be minimal.
Since many years Lazise registers the highest flow of tourists on Lake Garda. In other words: Lazise reports the highest number of overnight stays in comparison to all other municipalities at Lake Garda. The romantic village is furthermore ranked 14thof all Italian municipalities (in terms of tourist bookings) after the municipalities Rome, Milan, Venice, Florence, Rimini and Cavallino-Treporti, Jesolo, San Michele al Tagliamento, Caorle, Torino, Riccione, Lignano Sabbiadoro and Cervia. Needless to say that Lazise’s great popularity makes it one of the most expensive places at Lake Garda, which translates into high real estate prices.
The new kindergarden is not only going to be very colourful, but also very modern. The building will be ready by the end of summer and is going to be used by the local nursery and preschool.
The radar measurment device in front of the San Zeno tunnel has only been removed last year. The reason for the removal has been the low rate of accidents throughout the last ten years. But the mayor now wants to re-install the speed camera to keep avoiding possible accidents as some of them have been fatal before the device had been put in front of the the tunnel.
A lot of Manerba del Garda is going to be renovated throughout the next three years for a cost of about a million euros. Until 2020 the new lakeside promenade should be finished. Drainage works will be taken place, the city centre will be restored – we already reported about Piazza Emanuele, which will be renovated. Also the castle will be restored and there will be roadworks done.
A lot of the old road lighting of the small municipality Polpenazze, situated on the west shore of Lake Garda, has been fixed last year. Now the remaining 168 old light sources will be replaced by new LED-lighting systems. They can be remote-controlled, save energy and money and are definitely a smart choice in terms of environmental protection.
Sirmione is trying to become more and more ecofriendly. Next to energy-efficient lighting, the city now wants to safe drinking water by filtering water from the torrent Riello, which will then be used for irrigation systems or other purposes that do not need drinking water. Numbers showed that through a similiar system, already four years ago, the village Rovizza, which is a locality of Sirmione, was able to save more then 15000 cubic litres of drinking water per year. Another ecofriendly project gives young mothers the possibility to look into a diaper service promoting washable diapers to generate waste reduction.
Everybody wanting to get in shape, work on body toning and endurance, now has the possibility to work out in the newly built open-air fitness area of Toscolano Maderno. The fitness area is part of the public park and abuts the lake promenade. Being just a few metres away from the lake, it is also situated closeby the entrance of the cycling path. This will invite numerous cyclists to do their stretching before or after a cycling excursion. The well-equipped outdoor-fitnesspark also offers excercise machines, treadmills and detailed instruction on how to use the equippment at its best. It is moreover possible to conveniently download an app with a personal fitness plan on the smartphone.
They say the so-called Forra di Tremosine, the lakeside road in Tremosine, is one of the most beautiful roads in the world. But bad lighting, especially in the tunnels, makes this street more and more dangerous for drivers, motorcyclists and bikers. It is a well known fact that almost 35 % of all light sources in the tunnel of the Province of Brescia do not work sufficiently. But this now changes: old lighting systems will soon be replaced by modern LED- lights in over 34 km and in more than 40 tunnels of the Province of Brescia to help safe driving. On the Gardesana lakeside road there currently still are 600 meters without lighting, but this finally changes.
