Increase in the value added tax from July 01, 2013

17 October 2012

The stability law, which was passed in October 9, 2012, establishes an increase in the value added tax by 1 % as of July 01, 2013. This means that value added tax is increased from 21 % to 22 %.

This increase in the value added tax was already established in the supplementary budget of 2011: from July 01, 2013 to December 31, 2013 value added tax was meant to be temporarily increased by 2 % to 12 % and 23 %, only to see a permanent reduction by 1 % to 11 % and 22 % by January 01, 2014 provided that no tax reform comes into effect before June 30, 2013.

The stability law has brought forward the increase from 21 to 22 % in the value added tax from January 01, 2014 to January 01, 2013 regardless of a possible tax reform. The reduced tax of 10 % remains stationary for the time being.
