Lake Idro is situated on the Western shore of Lake Garda, by car about 45 minutes away from Toscolano Maderno, and is thus located between Lake Garda and the two slighty more well-known lakes, Lake Ledro and Lake Iseo.
The enchanting prealpine lake is for the most part situated within the Province of Brescia and therefore is close to the town of Brescia and its airport, although one can fully enjoy its remoteness. Mass tourism has never arrived on Lake Idro, which makes it a real insider tip for nature lovers and simultaneously presents a source of income for property owners renting out their homes as holiday houses. In fact the rural idyll around Lake Idro offers mostly small B&Bs, no big hotel complexes, only a beautiful camping site.
The temperature of the eleven kilometre long natural water reservoir can achieve 20 degrees during the summer period, which make Lake Idro almost as warm as Lake Garda. Along its bank there is the large municipality Idro, which is part of the Val Sabbia and is devided into seven districts: Tre Capitelli, Pieve Vecchia, Lemprato, Crone, Vantone, Paröle and Vesta. Those localilties are captivating because of their medieval castles and fortresses. The Val Sabbia counts almost 2000 inhabitants.
