This is the generic term for a “house”, however, in Italian this word has a much wider meaning and is generally used when talking about “home”, no matter what type of property it refers to. Depending on what word is added to the word “casa” it changes its meaning. When describing a detached, semi-detached or terraced house, the term casa is often replaced by the term “villa” or “villetta”.

• Casa/Villa singola: Detached
• Casa/Villa bifamiliare: Semi detached
• Casa/Villa a schiera: terraced
• Casa plurifamiliare: Multiple dwelling
• Casa d’angolo: Corner house
• Casa colonica: Farmhouse
• Casa padronale: Seignioral house
• Casa/Villa d’epoca: Old building (only exclusive residential properties older than 50 years)
• Casetta/Villetta: Small house (often a framehouse)
• Casale/casolare: Hamlet (often in an isolated position)
• Cascina/cascinale: Farm
